Considering this was in ORD when it happened, I'd venture to say it was a legacy UAL agent. It only happened 1 time so could have just been the exception, not the norm. Just wanted people that are new to be aware.

She also rebooked me on a later flight (I was not aware of this) and I got an email from the company saying that I no-showed for a positive space booking. I had to then respond to that email explaining that I wasn't even aware of it and I wasn't the one that booked it. No big deal and nothing ever came of it, but this whole ordeal was from 1 gate agent in ORD.
