They wouldn't be relaxing the rules, merely aligning the two together.
Our current obsession with marijuana is a direct result from a successful fear-mongering disinformation campaign waged in the earlier part of the previous century against hemp; not because people were worried about the health effects from smoking it, but because hemp was kicking cotton and paper's @s$. Nothing more.
Smoking marijuana has the same physiological effects of drinking booze. We allow one within 8 hours, but the other one will get you a tour of the slammer.
States are finally waking up to the nonsense this is, and relaxing, if not abolishing, the asinine prohibition.
It's just a matter of time before smoking a joint will be viewed in the same light as kicking back with your favorite Shiraz or hefeweizen.
It's only a matter of time before the FAA treats marijuana the same as alcohol.
And you can feel free to abstain all you want, and nobody will think any more or less of anyone who does, just like those who choose to abstain from alcohol today.
