Dang what a PITA it is to get a good job with a major nowadays. Multiple threads with tens of thousands of posts. The applications take hours and need the precision of a surgeon. Have to spend time off going to job fairs sponsored by different factions of our society. Try being furloughed twice ......once was enough for me but I already had a UAL seniority number so it worked out.
Not a lot of sympathy out there for your "I am over 40 and I am not at a major - whoah is me BS. "
Keep plugging away until you are called or give up - those are the only two choices.
