Of course it matters. Seniority is how you bid on your base, your line (schedule), and your vacations.

For lines, you bid in the seniority of your base. The people in a particular base that have been with the company the longest time with the company bid first. You only bid with people in your base, so your seniority in your base is important, but it is your seniority in the company that determines your base seniority as well.
