Thanks for your service, and welcome to JetBlue. Although it's fine to try and add perspective, let me share where most of us are coming from with our distaste for the change.
Compared to what was the norm for new-hires, it's definitely NOT an improvement. Previously, we used one of several extended-stay facilities on Semoran Blvd with individual kitchens in each unit, typically free breakfast daily and the occasional evening meal/manager's reception, walkable to several restaurants/bars etc. Wives/significants specifically invited to attend the new-hire party the night before as well as days 1-2 of orientation. This is going to be 6-weeks of total blue immersion unless you have wheels. Nothing at all in walking distance, kitchenettes in "common areas" so you can enjoy AO/GO highschool dropouts swiping your stuff from the fridge, wives/significant others no longer welcome to attend orientation and specifically forbidden from your quarters. I just hope recurrent and transition crews won't be staying there. The newhire FAs and AO/GO agents are all gonna think it's "fabulous" I'm sure.
