All the LAX 777 guys I know don't WANT a base out there! They are already getting paid an extra 10 hours per trip to deviate deadhead from ATL on both ends of all their trips!
The SYD trip pays 38 and blocks 28, the west coast guys show up night of departure and fly a 38 hour 3 day trip twice a month (6 days work) with a 24 hour layover in SYD. If there was a LAX 777 base, they'd only be paid the 28 block, and have to fly one more trip to make a line. Do you know how much it would suck to have to work 9 days a month??
The company would love to eliminate all that paid DH time, of course. And as soon as they put the 777 into LAX, Network will change the 777 trips and the LAX guys will DH to SEA or JFK or MSP or DTW or ATL to fly from there!
