I came to AWAC with 4 type ratings while in the corporate/charter world. Across those four I experienced Flight Safety, Simuflite and Sim Com. Some argue that when you go to a for-profit training center the training is easier because they have an interest in you passing. At AWAC it was no harder or easier than the other ones.

The only difference is AWAC really harped on standardization...which keeps the safety margin high since as we all know you could be flying with a new partner from leg to leg.

The large percentage of this problem is students who are not prepared and don't have a good base of experience. Too much G1000 and not enough good 'ol fashioned needle, ball and airspeed.

This is not the "I walked up hill both ways" speech, the airplane we fly straddles the old and new technologies. Also, when the transistors fail, we as pilots need to be adaptable...that is what they pay us for.

It is also not that difficult and AWAC goes to great lengths to try and make up for shortcomings. But in they end, they usually are the candidate's shortcomings...not the training department.
