The question wasnt does my sim time become part of my total time. It was do i report my sim/ftd time as its own category.

Sim time isn't worth much on an application, if anything....I'm not an expert. If it's all you have, then maybe include it. But otherwise, I would think highlighting it seems to be making up for low total time....even your total time doesn't need bolstering.

There's an old adage that under-reporting your time probably won't hurt you, but over-reporting it can get you blacklisted...
Part 61.65 clearly states sim time can be used for a portion of your instrument rating.......the percentage allowed depends what type of school you are using(61 vs 142)........ a legit reason to log it and report it.

61.57 states sim/ftd can be used to maintain instrument currency as well as utilize them for instrument proficiency checks.

Clearly thee FAA says "its worth something"

Under-reporting & over-reporting has nothing to do with it. Reporting it does not make up for "low time".....Its not part of your total time!

Because it's a tool to enhance your proficiency/ maintain currency without burning fuel and generating more mx time on your aircraft.

Doesnt matter if its on the civil side or the military side......it benefits everyone and is a wonderful tool if you are learning an inst. approach for the first time or executing your 1000th approach for currency/proficiency.
