If it's the employer records, look on the FA website there's a lot of info about PRIA including rules about incorrect info. PRIA does not protect employers who submit bad info.

If it's cost you a good job, you could sue the past employer...I think that would put the onus on them to PROVE their derogatory data. Normally the plaintiff bears the burden of proof but in this case it would be libel, where the defendant would have to show that any derogatory info in print was reasonably legit. You could then settle the lawsuit if they agree to fix your records to your satisfaction. That last is important IMO...employers don't like to hire people who make a habit of suing employers, but if all you got out of the deal was your record fixed (and maybe lawyer costs) I think anyone would be sympathetic. But you'll probably have to ask for money up front to get their attention.
