No they would not have to bypass on an upgrade, as they are still employed in a position that benefits the company's investment in them. The upgrade is very likely to come before 3 years. As of right now, this is for current employees only. I personally would like to see this program extended to prospective new hires...as long as the company doesn't lose sight of its financial obligation to its current pilots.
