It's extremely hard to get a feel for who to trust and what to believe and I'm about to pull my hair out. Good thing is my wife and I know where the end game is and that life will get better. If someone feels that a pilot getting in at this time won't get a couple thousand hours in about three to five years and be looking desirable to the majors, please chime in. But for now, as long as Skywest isn't in complete disarray, I'd like to bite the bullet now, knowing that in 6 months I will be above at least 300+ guys.
No worries,
I have no dog in the fight. They don't like my posts because they are contrary to their fairytales. Been doing this for quite awhile, seen lots come and many go. Heard the hard luck stories, for every one of the dream lines heard here, there are dozens unheard. Skywest is in a transitional phase right now, so what you see today might or might not be tomorrow. The hangar in BOI has a 60 ft high door, thats tall enough for an A330, SKYW isn't getting 330s so whats the reason, its a double decade rental agreement. DAL has declared all out war on Alaska Air, in SEA, we are going to Alaska in May, for DAL. Lots of stuff in the works, what that means is any body's guess, the proving runs are taking place as we speak. This is irrefutable info, the growth concept, is as likely as the shrinking concept, truth be told SGU is guessing at this point, otherwise why would they have both plans. My Ouija board is about as good as anyone elses, add some dice and roll away.
What I will say is this industry is difficult on families, and being on the bottom of the list can be more so.
Overall this industry will be a dream come true for some who got in early and the late comers will end up swinging their gear for a long time. The guys coming into the industry now are for the most part in their late 20s-early 30s, add 35 years to get to 65 means that for every guy who gets the quick upgrade there will be someone sitting in the right seat for a long time.
