It may be, but in my opinion, the interview actually lasts about 3 months (and really a full year when you are on probation). You are constantly evaluated throughout your training with the company. If you have a clean record, a good attitude, and have a commercial certificate with your ATP written finished, you should have a good chance of getting hired. All of the games and tricks that some of the other airlines play are just plain silly and do not belong.
It shouldn't matter how easy or difficult the written exam is. If you don't have the base knowledge, you will not pass training.
Agreed, some regional have some atypical interviewing process. While it is very valid to test the applicant to make sure he/she fits the company profile, some go out of their way to scare some applicants. I have met many instructors with very good record that will not apply to select companies just for that reason.
