Navigation is done by a little biddy black box called a "GPS", or a Tacan. The guy in the back seat is a"Weapons" officer. Yes he can eject on his own, and he can eject the pilot also. BTW, simulator reconstruction of this event ended with a crash every time. They are still not sure how this guy managed to get it back on the ground.
