This was going on at many more places besides spirit and the FAA is cracking down. fAR117 is about mitigating fatigue and if you are being incentivized to fly fatigued then there is a problem even if it's what you want. We are all professionals and should only extend if we are fit for duty but we are also human and extra money can and does cloud that decision. Listen, I love having the company by the balls when they need an extension if I feel good to do it but this email was the right thing to do. You can either extend or you can't. You don't suddenly become unfit for duty if they are not offering extra money.
