I think when the window really opens there will be more interest. This is the "perfect" place for some pilots out there. However, with the legacies hiring thousands to our hundreds, the percentages say a wannabe has a better shot of scoring an interview at a Legacy than here right now, hence the lines.
Unfortunately, the current negotiations climate does not help. Nobody wants to join an airline in the middle of a tough period, nor do they want to celebrate their new job by having to go on strike. I think a lot of old captains here told guys interested in 2004-2006 "its just business...ignore that...its a good place to work..." These days, I think the message is likely a bit more pessimistic and grim. I had 50 people in a seminar the day before WAI in Dallas. I asked "who is here and interested primarily in FedEx?" I got zero hands. We have become the back-up plan for many pilots...just another option. We'll fill our classes--I have no doubt. But I hope that our management can work with our union to get a contract, and turn this place back into a place that candidates beg to join. Its very different than it was just a few years ago...
