From feedback I've gotten from what is nearing 100 DAL interviewees, the panel is still a huge discriminator. Day 2 psych is also significant, though most I know have been reinstated by the board.
However, the cog is significant. There is good gouge out there. More importantly, you need to make sure your brain is ready. Prep through mind games, Lumosity, puzzles, etc is good, but I think even more important is good exercise, rest, nutrition, and hydration. Just like they teach in survival school - the better condition in which you show up, the better you'll do in the trial.
ALPA said that one new hire in 2014 was 61 years old..... cog must have not been too hard. I kid, I kid.
