At my company, we are not suposed to close the doors to the flight deck unless it is night and the light from the back is bothering us, or some safety of flight issue like that. Because of this, it can get mighty boring up front as we can't read a paper or magazine or use the I-pod. We eat on the longer legs and hopefully you have something in common with the guy in the other seat, because you are going to get to know eachother pretty well! No cell phone as we are to high (400-450). We have sat-com in the plane, but the company frowns on using it for personal calls. No hand flying in cruise because we are in RVSM airspace and our Ops Spec does not allow it. The short legs don't get as boring because there isn't enough time to sit with nothing to do.
