$100k plus is more than possible to spend.. I didn't spend that much, but I sure wasn't below $50k either.. truth is at ATP its $10k for a private and $75k (last I checked, I think) for the "career path".. could you do it elsewhere and save 10-20-up to 30%? Perhaps, but want to go to a "real airline" don't forget you'll be told you need a degree too!
Which part about comparing this profession to doctors is a joke? The idea that training is expensive? Or the idea that the job is serious? If a doctor goes through his training and makes a mistake on his first patient, how many people die? If a new-hire f/o makes a mistake at his new rj job, how many people might die? Nah, this stuff isn't serious and shouldn't be treated as such... Its all such a joke..
Idk, I think the comparison is fair... Should we compare pilots to teachers? Firefighters? What do you compare this job to and why?
