Curious if people would still think that this is such a great place to work or a great company, if the Legacy's didn't fall so far from grace post 9/11. Now that they have caught up and starting to surpass the cargo carriers once again, I imagine opinions will change again, if they haven't already. Not even addressing the toxic management culture, the risk here vs. the pax side is far greater and the regulations to protect us are far less stringent. The pay too does not address this.
Additionally, if the airline world allowed for lateral moves between carriers, at same level of pay and benefits like all other jobs on this planet as opposed to having to start all over again, I am sure those that think this place is so great would think twice about these statements.
My personal observations, in ordrer for a company to be truly great, they have to have buy in from their most valuable asset; its employee's and the exact opposite is true here. Wonder how long it will take for those running this joint to figure this out? Over a hundred years in business and still yet to learn this fundamental concept.
Using the most recent example of the buffoonery displayed with the 24 would-be new hires, it would have cost them just under a million dollars for them to fulfill their obligation by sticking to the original hiring plan and paying them the first year wages. Lets say that they really didn't need these guys right now but they would by peak, the money out of their pocket would have been less than a 30 second commercial during the NCAA tournament that I see every five minutes. For a multi-billion dollar international company that the OP cited as a great reason to determine whether or not you want to come here or not, that's not even chump change to keep the masses happy but instead they have managed to embarrass/pi$$off everyone, including the managers, even if none of them will even acknowledge it cause fear of termination. Not to mention its makes them look like complete idiots for not being able to manage the simplest of things, manning.
Imagine how profitable and successful this place would be if they could just figure out this very basic concept of "buy in" or as eluded to earlier as "good will". I venture to say it would have been more profitable decision and more value gained then a 30 sec spot on TV. We can always hope that this will change for the better.
So to those wanting to come here, thread carefully, weigh all options and choose wisely. Good Luck cause in this business once you make a choice your pretty much locked in.
