Ok, this is all getting so hilarious so I find a need to drop my own share of knowledge on 3 major points all y'all are making here:
1) "Its those new hires fault we don't have new wadges!"
Ok, funny as that point is, if new hires stopped airlines from getting contracts then the likes of Delta, American, and United would still be on 1908 payscales. Its not the new hires fault, people come here for reasons as various as our base structure, and new contracts can be had in periods of ample and weak labor supply. The sign-on bonus being allowed is a bigger part of our problem than the people taking it.
2) "Its those open time people who are the reason we are still negotiating"
As laughable as point 1, but for a different reason. True, when mainline stands united against opentime during section 6 talks, things happen. Mainline also stands united when its time for work actions to happen, and things happen then too. Like any regional, we stand united for neither. If anyone needs the money or whatever other reason to grab open time, there is no point in judging them. But if said anyone volunteers to help the company with their spare time, they most certianly should not blame anyone else for the lack of a CBA. Both new hires and open time pickups help the company, I don't judge either. But I'd expect between problem and solution, both should understand they are not being part of the solution.
3) "I've been here longer than time and don't dare work my day off!"
Congrats, you deserve a cookie, but humility by definition needs not attention. There are plenty of guys here who didn't come here during talks and don't pick up open time regardless of their personal financial situation. These guys stand on the other side of the problem/solution fence and have made many personal sacrifices for the greater good. While others say "I have to pay my bills/buy food/etc..." These guys may have not made their bill payments, these guys may know what real starvation is. This all to no success because they have sacrificed while others haven't. They have gone without, so that we can all stand divided, not united. These are the real fools, they have done so much because they care, about a group that cares less about them.
Until we stand united in something, we'll all claw over everyone for anything. Regionals by definition are a survival of the fittest cage match with everyone stepping over bodies hoping to be the one seen by the majors. Until we stand for any change, we won't see any change. The real reason for no new CBA is lack of unity, lack of action, and lack of desire. We all merely play are part and hope change will magically happen. If it doesn't, its somebody elses fault anyway.
