Longer answer: Now that Delta has started competing with Alaska out of Seattle, there is too much competition for it to be approved without some serious caveats.

Alaska's stock price is within 10% of it's all time high and 6X what it was five years ago. It seems to me the window of opportunity has closed on that union. Ramping up competition with Alaska doesn't seem like a sound business strategy for a carrier you want to buy either.
