If the airlines tell the public that if they pay us more, their ticket prices will go up, the public will hate us. The attention span of the public is really short, and all they will remember is that the airlines went out and said that the pilots were greedy and that is why their ticket is more money (wether it is true or not).
I absolutely have to agree with this statement. The flying public does not care nor will they ever care. Higher paid pilots = higher ticket prices. Besides, didn't ya know pilots only work "part-time" anyways.
As far as the whole "why doesn't ALPA do something?" argument. They're a business and they know who butters their bread. 2% of a widebody captains paycheck is a helluva lot more important than 2% of some regional kids paycheck.
