I don't follow Lear's postings, and the panel won't have a real clue about what his attitude has or hasn't been in the past...nor necessarily care how long he's been in the hold. I'm not judging Lear, and I'm not saying he (or she) is arrogant. I'm just offering a perspective he and anyone else reading can take or leave. One might see arrogance in interpreting on behalf of another poster... or in assuming that they would surely have been competitive under a previous (better?) system, if not now. OR, they might not. I'd recommend reducing risk wherever possible.
I am not proud of my particular qualification to offer this advice. I am a recent hire, having gotten the nod after first getting rejected (but invited back) for a substandard interview the first time through. Friends of friends in positions to know relayed that perceived arrogance might have held me back. I know some spectacular aviators that got similar results. Now, understand that the last thing I am is arrogant (easy for random internet guy to say, I know), but frankly that's irrelevant. All that matters is what three strangers think after 45 minutes of face time.
There's a certain arrogance to being surprised someone thinks you're arrogant, is there not? I grew to realize that and am trying to help others avoid making the mistakes I made. I'm not telling Lear how to post on this thread...just offering food for thought about the interview.
