And how exactly does that make someone "much more qualified" than a regional FO? Are their thousands of hours somehow useless? Are CRJs and ERJs not transport category airplanes flying for airlines? There are plenty of regional FOs that have more than 2300 hours in jets and in 121 ops. Ask any 8-year XJT or Eagle (or former Comair) pilot that have more than 6000 hours stuck in the right seat. Are they less qualified than a 24 year old who upgraded after 6 months at a smaller, growing regional? Absolutely not, in my opinion. I fail to see how some people can look so far down their noses at regional FOs, which I think you do based on your statement.
