Since I've been at SKW we've average 18.6 a month. That's below the nation’s average. If you want to know how many pilots we need then do the math.
Based on national average:
272 a/c @ 10 pilots per a/c (5 crews) = 2720 pilots + 10% FMLA/Military/training department/etc = 2992 total pilots for normal staffing levels.
We currently have 2728 (as of 6/27) - attrition of 114 (19 per month x 6 months left) = 2614 - 2992 (normal staffing level) = 376 more pilots this year.
Keep in mind that this doesn't take into account the 2 CR9's we receive every month, the CA CR7’s nor the extra 10 a/c Midwest might give us in October.
Also, historically SKW runs thinner reserves than most. Unusually 10-15% where as most run 20-25%. What does this mean, well the national average for adequate staffing of crews per a/c is 5 (10 pilots), SKW averages about 4.1 (or 8.2 pilots) per a/c.
