That will teach him, since it cost the company money to pay for unemployment benefits and the premiums go up the more people file for them.
Unemployment benefits are only paid when your employment ended by no fault of your own. If your fired... nothing. I believe it starts after your vacation time is paid out and the week or two waiting period passes anyway. Save your breath and get ready for ground school.
