This article suggests that United buy the 2- Air Canada E170s that they're trading to Boeing. I'd love to see that, as it would definitely help stop scope creep.

Amen. The loads are too high. United could maximize profitability and increase customer satisfaction numbers by increasing ASMs to help lower the loads. And going with used aircraft lowers the cost of adding capacity.

Even if it's a new order, the planes are likely steeply discounted in order to keep the production lines full until the 777X starts production. Article:
