I think it's definitely a different scenario today. Back in the day, the union did a poor job of clearing up rumors, and it was hard to know what to believe. Now we have electronic media, and access to more information than we can even dream of. I think the threat of furloughing people out of seniority (whether it was a valid one or not), with an uncertain possibility of return, was very effective. I also think that part of the reason we ended up with a contract that was not abysmal, was the fact that several hundred people requested their training records, looking to jump ship.

It was an ugly time at FedEx. Some people were declaring that they'd never strike, others were salivating to strike for any reason. I don't think (hope) we'll ever have that sort of lack of unity and hostility again.
