Pilot Applicant Recommendation Process
Apr 24, 2015
Calendar year 2015 will likely bring sustained pilot hiring for the first time in the last 3 years. Our most pressing hiring needs are for experienced B757/B767 pilots, although we will consider all qualified applicants regardless of whether they currently are or previously have been B757/B767 pilots.

We would like to briefly review the hiring process and explain how you may recommend a candidate for employment at FedEx Express. Some frequently asked questions are also addressed below.
The hiring process includes careful review of candidate qualifications, skills, and experience and requires successful completion of job-related testing, interviews, background, and reference checks. Current and former FedEx Express pilots may also provide recommendations on behalf of candidates. If selected for an interview, applicants will participate in a 2-day interview and evaluation process here in Memphis. That process involves a test, a Situational Based Interview and a panel interview. Hiring decisions will be made following the completion of the panel interview. Applicants will be offered conditional employment after a drug screening test, a criminal background check, and a USPS-required fingerprint and background check.

Elimination of 1000-hour multi-engine turbine PIC requirement
A notable change to our application process is the elimination of the 1000-hour multi-engine turbine PIC requirement. This change is consistent with minimum hiring requirements at other major carriers and does not mean that we are lowering our hiring standards. Captains with less than 1000 hours multi-engine turbine PIC, but with substantial relevant turbine experience as First Officers, may now be considered.

Recommendations
Recommendations must be made via the online application site and include the exact e-mail address the candidate has used to submit a profile in the system. This allows Flight Recruitment to connect the recommendation with the candidate’s profile. Any person, including retired FedEx Express pilots, can use the online referral form. This online form is the only process by which we accept feedback regarding any potential candidate.

Sponsors
Current FedEx Express pilots can also sponsor an applicant. When a current FedEx Express pilot “sponsors” an applicant, that pilot is making a strong statement about the applicant’s flying skills, people skills, and desire to fulfill the Purple Promise for our customers. A sponsor not only recommends an applicant, but also serves as a mentor during the probationary period if the candidate is hired by FedEx Express. A pilot may sponsor only one candidate at a time and should declare his/her Primary Endorsement (sponsorship) by indicating yes or no on the second page of the recommendation form.
FAQs
Q: Is there a limit on recommendations?
A: There is no limit on the number of recommendations you may submit; however, the most helpful and relevant recommendations are based on personal knowledge of a candidate’s aviation knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Q: Is a sponsor or a FedEx Express pilot recommendation required of an applicant?
A: No.
Q: I sponsored an applicant in 2010 who has since been hired at another airline. Can I sponsor a different applicant?
A: Yes. Please e-mail and explain the changes you would like to make with the e-mail addresses of the former and current applicant you would like to sponsor.
Q: How will I know whether the applicant I’m sponsoring will be asked to interview?
A: Flight Recruitment only communicates with candidates regarding steps of the selection process. Sponsors should not contact Flight Recruitment for information regarding sponsored candidates.
Q: Will it help to e-mail or call Flight Management with a recommendation?
A: No. The online recommendation is the only process by which we accept feedback regarding any potential candidate.
Q: I’ve heard that recommendations are no longer important in the process. Is that true?
A: No. Pilot recommendations are considered, along with other relevant selection criteria.
Q: A friend will be in Memphis and I would like to briefly introduce him to a Flight Manager. Is that okay?
A: In accordance with FedEx Express corporate policy, flight managers should not meet with pilot candidates outside of our formalized application process. FedEx Express does not accept unsolicited resumes. All candidates should use the FedEx Pilot Careers website to be considered for pilot employment with FedEx Express. If you want to recommend a candidate, please utilize the sponsor/recommendation process outlined above.
Q: A friend is having trouble submitting or updating the online profile. Who should he contact?
A: For any system problems with an applicant profile, update, or online recommendation, please contact [email protected].
