A friend, who is in the United Training Center, tells me that approximately 20-25% of the recalled pilots are accepting an assignment and actually going to class.

Air Transport World's daily electronic newsletter recently stated that NWA has admitted that a "significant" number of recent flight cancellations were due to "crew shortages". With the low number of pilots accepting recalls, the pilot shortage is only going to get worse.

I know of two carriers that have plans developed for "ab initio" training and I would not be surprised to see recruiting on college campuses very shortly. A great time to get on with the majors....but is it worth it ? Probably not in my opinion.
