Of all the routes discussed in the article there is only one a US carrier could currently fly which is the San Jose flight. That would however require a route authority. Everything else is China to non US countries. US airlines are also not reducing service to the Far East overall. In fact most US airlines are adding routes as fast as a route authority can be obtained.
Delta does have limited 5th freedom rights from Narita however you also need a slot for the flight. Those are not currently available.
