It reduces training churn, by which I mean guys in training which can be quite a substantial percent of the entire pilot group every year. Not only guys in training, but waiting for OE, pilots bought off trips for OE, etc.
Iow, it dis-incentivizes switching between planes which are in the same pay band.
I can be very much for things which streamline company operations. This one, I can't get on board with because it has the potential to require double digit percentage fewer pilots. And not to be oblique, but that could be anywhere from 10-30% fewer (somewhere in there) at various times.
Two new words for the day dis-incentive and oblique. "Give me underboob or give me death." What Nathan Hale really said.
