Heh heh. Though I didn't give a specific timeframe for that little episode, I guarantee you it most certainly did happen.
I was hired in June of 2013 and on the day of the CJO was told I'd be assigned CRJs as per my request. Some weeks later, I and several others who had also been assigned CRJs received an email which stated that all XJT new hires would report to Houston for indoc and select equipment out of there. There were about 7 of us in my class of 32 with that story and we were all not very happy when we showed up and on day one in Houston were told that the entire class would be assigned ERJs. Turns out that that had been the plan for some time; they'd just been more undermanned on the ERJ side at that time and didn't bother telling us that we would have one choice of equipment to pick on day one.
I know that circumstances have changed and the environment is substantially different now and I'd be guessing if someone asked me how classes are assigned now and how many there are in each pipeline. But looking back, on day one, those seven or eight did feel like we'd been caught in a bait and switch.
Turns out that that was a blessing in disguise because the ERJ side really did work better for me. I've flown with some great folks and have some really good friends at XJT. Just trying to get a better feel for XJT/ASA's current environment.
