I think the reason that Jeff has stuck around so far is because the BoD knows they need a super-prick at the helm for the next round of contracts and to complete the current round with other labor groups.

The UAL MEC policy Manual should be amended to also mark the anniversary of the CAL pilots strike. It is from those lessons learned that ALPA was able to garner enough support and loyalty within the ranks to beat management just two years later.
I don't think we need to be that worried about bankruptcy courts today, which was obviously the way to beat labor in the 80's, but I would be interested in UAL's behind the scenes lobbying efforts to find out what sort of downward pressure they will be exerting on the price of a pilot visa-vi foreign competition and intertwined multi-national agreements.
