The 717 is the most senior new hire airplane in the fleet. Other than if you want NYC I wouldn't pick it if base is more important to you than equipment. If you want NYC then you'll quickly get senior, otherwise enjoy a longer time on reserve than any other NB (and a longer time to get to your desired base, unless of course that base is NYC).

edit: there might actually be a vacancy or two @ LAX that didn't get filled on the last AE on the 717, not 100% certain. In LAX the 7er is senior to the 717.
