By now, I’m sure you’ve had the opportunity to fly with or meet some of our recently hired pilots. Since we began hiring in December 2013, we’ve brought more than 1,000 new pilots to legacy American Airlines and legacy US Airways. I know there are some rumors that we’ve stopped hiring, but that's not the case. It’s true that we’ve delayed our street hires to accommodate returning deferrals and flow agreements, but we will ramp up again in the fall. In fact, there will be more than 500 new pilots joining the ranks this year — almost 20 percent of them being off the street; and 2016 staffing projections range between 400 and 500. Adding new pilots to our cadre, coupled with the considerable number of predicted retirements over the next five years, translates to movement and opportunity. All in, we’ve had more than 600 Captain upgrades since 2014, and we’re planning to add up to 150 more new Captains by the end of the year."
