Atlas had about 500 pilots the beginning of 2009. They furloughed about 80 as I recall. Some for just a couple months and some for just over a year. No airline can be 9-11 proof and they all will respond to slowing economy. One of the things I told them in my interview was that my prior job went away because it was totally US domestic cargo and cratered as the economy slowed in 2008. Atlas is diversified with ACMI work, their own freight work, AMC flying and charter work. And they span the globe. So if one part of the world slows or one market slows they still have other things going.
