That should not be happening. When younare issued a seat for leg one, even the jumpseat, the system should then put you on the priority list for leg two as a thru passenger.
Maybe a "funktion" of the hybrid system? IDK
If you take your boarding/jumpseat pass from leg one to the agent at the gate of leg two, they should make you a thru, with your original leg one checkin time.
I agree, Company Seniority in the cabin would be better
