Yes, commuting is a choice and as long as commuting remains a choice, I will continue working for the company. If the company said commuting wasn't a choice, I would quit. The fact that they changed the commuting rules during negotiations, prior to the worst commuting season of the year, with record load factors, after the AEs to bases (NYC, LAX, SEA) with a large amount of offline commuting is a cheap shot at the pilot group.
This isn't the only career option available. We are all college educated professionals with many options outside of just this one employer. Most of us have options outside of this career field entirely, it's a shame not everyone sees that. If we had the self confidence to believe in our career potential as a group, 50% +1 would be a much higher threshold in negotiations.
