Apparently not much has changed and the toxic culture that is the 88 remains. That is why I am on the 717 and I think my FOs enjoy working with me. Yes we run the APU until ground air is hooked up... Yes we will start both on pushback if it looks like a short taxi... NO I don't gnash my teeth if after starting both gnd ctrl puts five aircraft in front of us and we taxi 2 eng for 7 minutes.
The 717 no doubt has its 2%ers as well but I like to think that I am part of a positive vibe and "culture." I rarely felt that way on the 88...maybe that's why I spent more than a dozen years on the 757.
I'm with you herk.
The captains on the 717 have been great and a joy to fly with and I've heard the new hires have been really good as well. You're always going to have "that guy" and "great guys" on the spectrum but on the 717 it trends heavily towards "great guys" which is probably unique. Maybe it's because the A/C and VNAV works.
And fwiw I've flown with a lot of LCA and two APDs, they've been fun to fly with too. And the lead LCA, they're the best.
It's just a good attitude plane.
