Military guys are almost guaranteed a major airline job. But it comes years after the opportunities of the civilian guys. Check out the seniority lists and the really impressive careers are going to the civilian guys who get hired young(er).
Impressive my arce, based on casual observations of many new hires. 35+ years on the line and you can expect a big pot of dough counterbalanced by morbid obesity, High BP, cancer, a busted circadian rhythm system, chronic fatigue and God knows what else. Just take a looksee at the current thirty somethings RJ crowd waddling around the terminal stuffing their pieholes while their shirts and pants are screaming for relief. If dollars are the benchmark for an impressive career then by all means go for it, you won't be around to enjoy it after you retire.
