To me the biggest differences are if you aren't assigned a trip by noon prior to a golden day then you're done where as you have to ask permission to be released if the next day is an XX day. The other big item is they can tag you on the last day of a RES day with a trip that extends into your XX days while they are not allowed to do that if it is a golden day.
