Legally, he is right and you are wrong. The company made the offer prior to employment and agreed to by the prospective new hire. That is a contract made outside of actual employment. WHEN the new hire is paid is immaterial. It would have been smarter on the company's part to make the prospective new hire wait for six months for payment. Much less likely to bolt after starting on the line.
