I'm one of those guys with no family or wife (and absolutely no intention of having either) who loves being on the road all the time and popping in to places for 2-3 weeks at a time. The idea of a normal life is not appealing to me in the least. But I do think your post was valuable as it does lay out some realistic things to consider for those who think they want it without knowing what it is. I'm quite comfortable in this life though as I've been at it (well a variation of it) for 6 years, been more like 2-3 months on 3-4 weeks off for me and trying to get more of a steady rhythm to it.
