Here's my deal, I'm a forever FO at a regional that's losing flying and I've been "2 years away from upgrade" for 6 years. I really don't have much to set my resume apart from the sea of other RJ FOs as evidenced by only Allegiant calling.
So I guess here's my question, is this place worth going to for a type rating? Is it realistic and/or are people using Allegiant as a revolving door to head to better places? I heard from a friend that his buddy spent 6 months there, hated it and then went to a major. Yeah, I know, one anecdote does not make a good reason to go to a place like Allegiant but I do think an A320 type would set me apart to the likes of Delta, United, etc.
Also do you guys have ASAP?
Thanks
We have ASAP.
And yes, some have come for the Airbus type and bailed to China, but there's no guarantees of anything. Most classes have been MD80 sprinkled with a couple of AB spots. Seniority in class goes by age though, so if your under 40 you may very well get stuck on the -80.
We are getting a lot of AB's over the next couple years, BUT the seat lock is only 2 years so some -80 FO's have been jumping over. Plus the since the AB's have been replacing -80s down in Florida those slots are being reserved for the displaced FOs.
So to sum it up? I don't know, that's a tough call. I came here from a dying regional myself so I can't say I would blame you. This place has been a resume booster for some, but some guys have gotten busts as well. United and Alaska have hired a lot of our guys lately, but I'm not aware of any going to Delta or American recently? (someone correct me on this if I'm wrong). As you can imagine, there are no guarantee's you'll be sitting in that class at a Legacy in 6 months after coming here.
Good Luck in your decision.
