There might be a way to get a 19-0 vote.
ALPA is always accused of mounting a "sales job".
Whether you agree or not, a lot of pilots perceive that as somehow unfair.
That sales ritual is the source of nearly all the acrimony and divisiveness.
One option would be to simply empower the rank and file:
Send it out without the MEC formally recommending a yes or no vote.
Let the line pilots read it and decide for themselves.
Individual ALPA officials can opine to their hearts content.
Just refrain from activating the "machine" this time.
Small "d" democracy. Writ large.
This is a historic opportunity in so many ways.
Management needs 19-0 because the challenges that come with adding 2 or 3 more fleets while retiring hundreds of captains each year for the next decade are unparalleled.
The Delta pilots deserve the promised historic PWA after our billions in concessions.
ALPA needs 19-0 because our pilots are detached and see ALPA as a failure.
For me 19-0 is an automatic yes vote. I wear my ALPA pin and contribute to the PAC.
Another mins run C2012 is a game changing mistake.
Now is not the time to be cheap. I have no doubt the machine can push this through.
If they do, the will win the battle and lose the war.
The ramifications will be severe.
