The NMB looks at market comps. They don't say 'well delta really has been messed around more that other airlines, and they make more money as a company...here delta pilots, here is an extra billion a year'. They look at competitor rates, what the market currently bears and you get that.

I don't see it ever going to NMB. I see RA recognizing the pilot group courageously calling his zero-risk bluff/low-ball and quickly improving the offer on the table. FedEx may soon have a really strong contract on the street - he loves to compare financials, so let us compare compensation too!
I also think RA recognizes the benefit of having his pilots' compensation and work rules SIGNIFICANTLY exceeding the competition's. Add to their palpable discontent and general disgruntledness and we pull ahead (farther).
