Imagine a 5 year CA earning $105/hr and a 3 year FO earning $70/hr at a regional. I guarantee you, that many more of the regional pilots WILL NOT move to another airline if that was the case.
So, maybe a select few regional airlines, need to think in terms of being a long term "BIG" player in the market vs. always thinking they are a stepping stone.
What makes you think management wants the pilots to stick around any longer than 5 years? SkyWest management in the past has made it no secret that they'd rather you leave than stick around. A $63/hr captain does the same job as a $93/hr one without all of the additional paid time off that the guy thats been here 10+ years receives. Most pilots realize that there's a benefit of the greater experience, however most management types purely look at the cost.
