Question for RAH guys and gals

This morning I show up for 0659 flt from MCI-PHL to find out flight is delayed until 1017 due to crew rest. Now this already seems fishy as this would be an originator as MCI is a crew base, but ok I will buy it. But then it's announced that our inbound aircraft is going to be late from CLT. Wait..... What? How can our aircraft be doing a revenue flight from CLT and planned to be departing MCI at 0659?

My question is, is this just how things are going? I wish no bad on any airline but I think that this is a sign of the times regionals are desperate! There are too few pilots to fill seats. Call it what you will, but it's a shortage.
