BUT this is waaay overkill!
They should identify these 1800 pilots and give them all a month off without pay. July is good month. I wonder if I short notice call in sick for my next two trips, is there time to be added to list?

Since I been hired there were always subsets of Delta pilots that allegedly abused sick leave. (I'm sure there groups before my time as well). First it was the Western guys. Then the PanAm guys. Now it is anyone who they add to the list.

For the last 10 plus years management has really cranked this up. Management keeps accusing, arresting, trying, convicting and punishing the entire pilot group as sick leave abusers. If, big IF, the number is roughly 18-20% of the working pilot group, management created the problem by their behavior. And their answer? Keep getting harsher.

If you are healthy and never call in sick. Good for you. I still my health, and at my age now know how valuable that is. How do I know? I have watched/helped/guided several friends/pilots through illness and accidents.

The answer is not more horse manure from the seagulls both on the fourth floor and the ALPA building. It is about treating the 99.X% of Delta pilots who do a phenomenal job with the proper respect. That includes a great contract and shutting up about sick leave abusers. The problem will then go away. At that point they can deal with the .X%.
